The book was written by Arthur C. Clarke in collaboration with Stanley Kubrick during the production of the film and published after the movie.
It was inspired by some of the author's short stories, such as: The Sentinel and Encounter in the Dawn.
The film was released a year before man landed on the moon, which gave more credence to theories that the moon landing was merely a Hollywood hoax.
+2001: A Space Odyssey, published by Editora Aleph, has already sold over 30,000 copies.
In the early days of humanity, when hunger and predators threatened the human race, an unusual object arrived on Earth, inaccessible to the limited understanding of the prehistoric mind, but which influenced humans to discover things that allowed for their own evolution.
Millions of years later, the discovery of a buried monolith on the Moon leaves scientists perplexed. To investigate this mystery, Earth sends a highly trained team into space along with HAL 9000, an artificial intelligence responsible for the spacecraft's operation and the crew's safety. However, the emergence of minor malfunctions raises suspicions that something is wrong with the mission.
Written by Arthur C. Clarke with the intention of expanding the story he created with Stanley Kubrick for the cinema, 2001: A Space Odyssey disconcerts the reader and leads them to an alternate future of human history.
